shale and siliceous sediments formed. Continued mountain building.

TERRESTRIAL ANIMAL LIFE: Reptiles dominant with Crocodiles, turtles,
lizards and dinosaurs. Pterosaurs and Archaeopteryx take to the air.
Mammals begin to diversify. More advanced insects such as flies.
PLANT LIFE: Cycads, ginkos, conifers, ferns and tree ferns.
SEA LIFE: All major invertebrate groups well represented, ammonites and bivalves successful. Marine reptiles, Ichthyosaurs are Plesiosaurs.

Geological Guide to Boggle Hole

Boggle Hole
At Boggle Hole, the Redcar Mudstone Formation is well exposed on the foreshore. This formation includes the zones Oxynotum and towards Stoupe Beck, obtusum.
The Redcar Mudstone Formation is grey, fossiliferous, fissile mudstones and siltstones with subordinate thin beds of shelly limestone in lower part. It has fine-grained carbonate-cemented sandstone in upper part with argillaceous limestone concretions occuring throughout.
